Foundations of Loving Arts 101: Getting To Know Your Sexual Self The purpose of this initial course is to create a safe space for talk about sexuality, establish clear definitions, and help each student look at the role sexuality has played in her/his life. Classes consist of multi-dimensional, informational segments, followed by group discussion, written and/or verbal activities, and personal growth exercises to be done at home. Ritual, an important component of each class session, is employed in various ways to create sacred space for safe, supportive interactions. There is therapeutic value in each course, but classes are not therapy nor are they intended to take the place of therapy. Students decide for themselves the degree to which they feel comfortable sharing personal information. Week 1: Introductions, get acquainted, opening ritual Expectations for course Discussion : What is sexuality? How did you learn about sexuality? Homework assignment: Sexual timeline Week 2: Ritual and check-in Lecturette and small group exercise: Cultural and Family Messages; Connecting Body, Mind and Spirit with Sexuality Discussion Homework assignment: What cultural messages did you get and from whom? What core beliefs did you develop? Optional: Attend class on journal writing (to be held same week) Week 3: Ritual and check-in: Sharing of homework (as comfortable) Lecturette: How value and belief systems are created and can be changed Discussion Homework assignment: How have messages and beliefs influenced sexual experiences, relationships? What do you want to change or enhance? Week 4: Ritual and check-in: What has each person learned about themselves so far? Discussion: What does the inner lover want to do now? Design your ideal sex life. Check-out: Create an Action Plan What action is each person willing to take to become more open to sexual exploration and growth? How can each person create a sex-positive environment for him/herself? Closing ritual, goodbyes. Registering for next class. |
